house of lux

house of lux aka house of black infinity is a public walk with Black metropolarity archive patterns of emergence. Our sojourn traces Black geographies. Conducted with collaborators lux pirates maps, deranges and destructs imperialist reports and architectural blueprints in search of Black fantastics. lux travels for marvel, story, wildin provocations, rumor, ritual, grapevine, cousinage, recipes, remedies, libations, provisions, prayer calls for remembering somatic sense things shared between us.

house of lux borrows from the kinfolk traditions that emerged in Black and Brown North Philadelphia. house of lux is composite architecture of a Black Pangea that is trans regional, deeply local to many spaces, polyphonic and multi lingual. By 1940, North Philadelphia had become a Mecca for Black migrant refugees like our grandparents from Alabama and Virginia. They came in through networks like International Peace Mission movement and the Divine Lorraine Hotel, the Pyramid Club, UNIA and the local YMCAs.

house of lux models the mutual aide societies gangs squads festivals speakeasies and after hours spots of our North Philadelphia and Southern experiences, repositories for Black chance, joy, pain & respite.
