reclamation, determination, weathering, rebirth, possession, dispossession, hotfootin, dreaming, ingenuity, borderlessness, transmutation The New Freedom Project presents Angela Davis Johnson and her investigations into deranging landscapes by centering Black geographies. Borrowing from the tradition hush harbors, HOLD ON: LUXradio becomes a reflective portal to consider forming and deforming Black life and culture. The work comprises archival images across time and space, fragmented fabric, and line to recall memories of our sacred down home technologies in an ever changing world. HOLD ON (2023) is a Hollerin Space regarding culture and care. LUXradio is a multi modal deconstructed village radio that transmits frequency through sound, light, materiality, travel, space, image, collage and video. HOLD ON, a durational porch sit performance practice, travels and informs multiple spaces in four directions along the eastern seaboard and into the gulf. We are deranging imposed architectures of colonization. We offer our interference as Black Queer fam in practice for something else. HOLD ON: LUXradio creates algorithmic experiences for an assembly of deranged and imposed records of colonization on flesh and land. In practice for something else HOLD ON continuously reassembles itself a dream imaging legend, part fleshy interiority, calibration portal and black light noise harmonix. HOLD ON is an embodied imagination space and somatic care practice with kinfolk (2020). We have collections of sourced material mining what we lived through and what we have heard the elders talk about that they lived through: off grid living, living by water, eviction, home births, hospital births, burials, tenant farming, plantations, servitude, rebellion, gangs, migrations, wars, awol, second lines, block parties, drill teams, anger, hate, envy, lies, crack and HIV criminalization, prison, violence, fashion, immigration, the road, travel stories, media programming, loveships, staying power. muthi reed and Angela Davis Johnson are creative partners in Hollerin Space (2015). muthi reed is a griot and media maker from Philadelphia. Angela Davis Johnson renders symbols through paint, song, and movement and is a lifelong sojourner from the South.
